How to stop Google Photos backup from your Android phone

Google Photos used to be a great free place to store our photos and videos at high quality, but the company called off the good days on the 1st of June 2021. However, if you really loved seeing the memories, beautiful AI-designed collages, and more, you can still back up your photos and videos on Google Photos, but that will count against the 15 GB of storage that Google offers you for free.

You can also expand the storage by purchasing extra storage plans from the company. However, if you do not want to use the Google Photos backup service any longer as it is no longer free, and you do not get unlimited backup, here’s how you can stop Google Photos unlimited backup service.

So, without any further delay, let’s get started with how you can stop Google Photos backup on your Android phone.

First, open Google Photos, and tap on the profile circle on the top right corner of the app UI.

Next, tap on the ‘Photo settings’ option in the list.

In the settings menu, tap on ‘Back up & sync’, which should be the first option on the list.

Now, simply use the ‘Back up & sync’ to switch it off. Now it is turned off, as shown below.

The unlimited backup service on Google Photos is now stopped. However, you can re-enable it anytime if you change your mind, and want to store your lifetime memories on Google Photos by getting a storage plan. Yes, you will need that if you want to store all your memories.
