How to see the word count on Google Docs?


The word count of a document is relevant in many ways. It all depends upon what information you want to provide, how detailed is it, and how much time you want the reader to invest in it. In Microsoft Word, the word count is persistently visible just below the document. 

However, that is not the case by default on Google Docs. If you recently switched to Google Docs, this can be an initial problem, however, here I am with the solution to it on InkedFreedom.

To see the word count on Google Docs, click on the ‘Tools’ option, and then click on ‘Word count’.


The word count of the document, along with other tidbits of information will be presented to you, just like the screenshot below.


However, there’s a hotkey as well. You can use the ‘Ctrl+Shift+C’ to see the word count on Google Docs.

But if you want to know how to see the word count on Google Docs persistently for a particular document, just mark the option that says ‘Display word count while typing’, in the ‘Word count’ box, and click on ‘OK’.


How to see the word count on Google Docs mobile

If you want to know how to see the word count on the Google Docs Android app, it is simple, as well.

Just tap on the triple-dot icon, and tap on ‘Word count’ to see the word count and relevant details on the fly.
