How to zoom in on a Windows computer display


If you have some problem with your vision, or the monitor is kept at a distance from you on the desk, you will face problems with reading text on the screen. The problem is not always limited to text, but it can extend to other on-screen elements like small images, icons, etc. 

To eliminate this issue, one way is to change the display scaling to 125% or 150%, depending upon the DPI, or the resolution of your monitor and screen size combination. However, if you don't want to keep the display elements large at all times through display scaling, you might want to know, how to zoom on the desktop screen, whenever necessary.

So, today on InkedFreedom, I will talk about how you can magnify desktop elements whenever required.

Zoom in on a computer display on Windows

To get started with how to zoom in to your desktop, tap on the start button, and search for ‘Magnifier’.


Depending upon the magnifier settings, your desktop might get magnified immediately, as shown in the screenshot below. If you wanted to know, how to zoom in to desktop icons, this is the way to go.


This way, you can move your mouse pointer in any direction to magnify that particular part of the screen.

However, one problem with this setting is, you cannot see the whole screen at once. There is a way to move the mouse pointer to a particular part of the screen and magnify that specific part. To do that, you have to use a few shortcut keys to switch between views.

You can use the ‘Ctrl+Alt+D’ to switch to dock mode, where the selected part of your screen will be displayed on the top.


By using the ‘Ctrl+Alt+L’ hotkey, you will switch to lens mode the selected part of the display will be magnified around the mouse pointer, just like, if you place a real magnifying glass on that part of the screen.


If you want to switch to the mode, where the whole display will be magnified, you have to use the ‘Ctrl+Alt+F’ button to switch to full-screen mode.

That way, you can easily zoom in to your desktop whenever you want. If you use the ‘Magnifier’ tool often on your Windows computer, you can set a shortcut to it on the desktop, pin it to the taskbar or the start menu for quick and easy access to it.
