How to export bookmarks in Google Chrome? Export bookmarks from Google Chrome to any browser of your choice

One thing that is common with all web browsers is bookmarks, aka. Favorites. Whenever we come across something interesting on the web, something useful, or something that we plan to use often, we bookmark them or add them to our favorites. Thus, if you want to switch from your existing browser to another, there is always a way to use your favorites or bookmarks on your new web browser.

Google Chrome is one of the most popular web browsers out there. However, you might have your own good reasons to switch to a new web browser, or simply want to use another web browser for a different purpose. So, today on InkedFreedom, I will talk about how to export bookmarks in Google Chrome, to another web browser.

How to export bookmarks in Google Chrome on Windows?

On Windows, if you are switching from Google Chrome to Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge, you can easily import the bookmarks, and other browser data from Google Chrome by visiting the Bookmarks, or Favorites section in Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge respectively.

On Mozilla Firefox, the process to import bookmarks from Google Chrome is a little complicated. On Firefox, use the ‘Ctrl + Shift + O’ shortcut key to open the Mozilla Firefox library.

In the Library window, click on ‘Import and Backup’, and then click on ‘Import Data from Another Browser…

Here, select Chrome, and click ‘Next’.

Now, select the Chrome profile, if you have multiple of them. Once you are done, click on ‘Next’.

Now, select the elements that you want to import. Besides, bookmarks, you can also import cookies, passwords, etc. from this menu. After you are done choosing the elements, click on ‘Next’.

The process will take some time, depending upon the size of the contents and after it is finished, click on ‘Finish’. The process to export bookmarks from Google Chrome to Mozilla Firefox is now complete.

On Microsoft Edge, it is comparatively easier to export bookmarks and ultimately import them to Edge.

In the case of Edge, as well, use the ‘Ctrl + Shift + O’ to open Microsoft Edge Favorites bar. Now, on the favorites menu that pops up, tap on the triple-dot icon, and then click on ‘Import favorites’.

Now, the import wizard will open in the settings window. Under the drop-down menu corresponding to ‘Import from’, select ‘Google Chrome’. In the next step, you have to choose the Chrome profile, from where the favorites are supposed to be imported. Use the drop-down menu under ‘Profile’ to select the profile, and once you are done, click on ‘Import’.

You can also choose the exact elements that you want to import, just like that in Mozilla Firefox. Besides favorites, you can also select other personal information, login data, browsing history, payment info, and much more.

Now, the process will begin, and once it is complete, all the selected elements from Google Chrome will be on Edge.

How to export bookmarks in Google Chrome on Windows for any browser?

Now, if you are using any other browser that doesn’t allow direct import of favorites from Google Chrome, say, for example, Brave browser, there’s a simple way to export bookmarks from Google Chrome in HTML format, and later import it on any browser of your choice. I will go with HTML over CSV, as HTML is supported by all the browsers out there.

Open Google Chrome, and use the ‘Ctrl + Shift + O’ to open bookmarks on Google Chrome.

On the bookmarks page, click on the triple-dot icon on the top right corner of the UI, as shown in the screenshot below, and then click on ‘Export bookmarks’.

Now, save the bookmarks HTML files to any local folder of your choice.

After the bookmark file is created you can use this HTML on any browser of your choice, to import the bookmarks to your new web browser.

After you open the new web browser, just use the option that says ‘Import from HTML’, and select the HTML file to import the bookmarks to your new web browser.

You should find the option to import using an HTML file, within your browser library, or within bookmarks that can be accessed using the ‘Ctrl + Shift + O’ hotkey. As there are several popular web browsers today in the market, it is next to impossible for me to discuss, how to import bookmarks within HTML for every single browser out there. Even though the process will be different for every browser, you should find the option within the bookmarks section.

However, here’s a screenshot displaying where you can find the import option for HTML, on a few popular web browsers for your quick reference.
