How to find your WiFi password on Windows 11 with two simple steps

WiFi is one of the most common and easy ways to connect to the internet, as long as you have one, or are within a WiFi zone. The password for a connected access point gets automatically saved onto your device, may it be your mobile or PC so that your device is easily connected to the network once you are within the zone.

But, seeing the WiFi password is not something most users can easily do, which is obviously possible. So, today I will talk about how to find your WiFi password on Windows 11, which is the newest version of Windows.

How to find WiFi password Windows 11 using Command Prompt? (The simplest way)

The simplest way to find WiFi password on Windows 11 is by using the Command Prompt. Simply open the Command Prompt by typing ‘cmd’ in the start menu. You can alternatively use the ‘Run’ program, to open the Command Prompt.

Now type in the following command, and hit the enter key.

Netsh wlan show profile name="WiFi name" key=clear

Replace ‘WiFi name’ with your access point name. For me, the access point name is ‘Cat’s Home_5G’. So, my command will go as follows.

Netsh wlan show profile name="Cat’s Home_5G" key=clear

One thing to note here is that, the command is not at all case-sensitive. So, if I write “cat’s home_5g” instead of “Cat’s Home_5G”, that won’t make any difference. The same goes with other parts of the command too.

Right then, you will find information about the WiFi network, and the password too, as shown in screenshot below. You should find the password in ‘Key Content’, under ‘Security settings’.

So, that’s how to find your WiFi password on Windows 11 using Command Prompt. You can find password for any WiFi network that you have previously connected to.

How to find my WiFi password on Windows 11 without Command Prompt?

If you are not comfortable using the command line, or the Command Prompt, and wandering, how to find my WiFi password on Windows 11, here’s how to find WiFi password on Windows 11 without using the Command Prompt.

Simply open ‘Control Panel’, by clicking on the Start menu, and click on ‘Network and Sharing Center’ by selecting ‘Large icons’ corresponding to ‘View by:’.

Here, you should find the name of your WiFi network under active networks. Click on the link corresponding to the active WiFi network, which is ‘Cat’s Home_5G’ in my case.

In the ‘WiFi Status’ window, click on ‘Wireless Properties’.

A new window will open up displaying the wireless network properties. In this window, open the ‘Security’ tab, and check the option that say ‘Show characters’, under ‘Network security key’.

Here, you might have to enter your Windows password depending upon the settings of your user-specific settings. After that, you should find the password of the WiFi network you are currently connected to, exactly as per the screenshot below.

However, one problem with this method is, you can’t see the password of any WiFi network that you are not currently connected to. That said, you need to connect to the WiFi network to find the password. So, you need to be within the WiFi zone to find the password, which is the only snag in this process.

Both the methods can be used to find the WiFi password on older versions of Windows too. So, if you are on Windows 10, Windows 8, etc., and want to see the Wi-Fi password, you are at the right place. Follow the exact same process to find the WiFi password on your Windows computer, no matter which version of Windows you are using.
