Well, if you are using any of the modern handsets, the stock camera app should recognize a document, and you can scan the document instantly, as shown in the screenshot below. You can later find the scan in your gallery. However, it is still a hit or a miss, and thus, that isn’t the way I will discuss here.

With the method I will discuss here, all your scanned documents will instantly be uploaded to Google Drive so that you can access the scan from any of your devices logged in with the same Google account.

To get started, long tap on the empty area on your home screen to open widgets. Based on your device manufacturer, launcher, or UI, the process to get to the widgets screen might be a little different.

Once there, find ‘Drive’, tap on it, and long tap on ‘Drive scan’ to place it on your home screen.

Now, you have to choose the Google account where all the scans will be uploaded. Simply choose the account, and tap ‘OK’. However, if you have only one account added to your Android smartphone, there won’t be this step.

In the next step, you have to choose the folder within your Google Drive, where the scanned documents will be uploaded. Here, I have created a folder ‘Scans’, where I will keep all the scanned documents. You can use a different folder of your choice. Simply open the folder and tap ‘Select’.

Well, now you are ready to scan documents without any third-party app. So, let’s now find out how to scan docs on Android, after you are done with the initial steps.

Simply follow the same steps again to capture another page and append it to the document.

After you are done, tap on the ‘Save’ button.

You can now find the scanned document within the folder that you have chosen, within Google Drive.
