How to link Google Forms with Google Sheets for effortless analytics


If there arises a situation when you have to collect responses from a team of people online, there’s nothing better than Google Forms. With time, Google Forms has evolved, and you can accept different types of responses from users, and that too, in one single form, by no more than sharing the link. 

While Google Forms will also display the responses recorded in the Google Forms interface, but, it is also possible to connect Google Forms to Google Sheets to carry out data analysis and use the power of Google Sheets to have a deeper understanding of the responses. However, by default, the form isn’t connected to a sheet, and thus, you must first know how to link Google Forms with Google Sheets. So, today on InkedFreedom, I will discuss exactly that.

So, without any further delay, let’s get started with how to connect Google Forms to Google Sheets.

How to link Google Forms with Google Sheets?

If you are here, you might already know how to create a form with Google Forms to record responses from users. So, I am not going into the details of how to create a form on the platform.

Let’s thus jump into how to connect Google Forms to Google Sheets with an already existing form on Google Sheets.

Getting started with signing in and finding the form

Simply open Google Forms and sign in with your credentials, if you haven’t signed in already.

Now, select the form to connect Google Forms to Google Sheets.

Once the form opens up, click on the ‘Responses’ tab. Here you can see the responses by the users, and at the same time, you can also connect Google Forms to Google Sheets.

Now, click on the Google Sheets icon, as shown in the screenshot below.



Here, you can either choose an existing sheet or create a new sheet to connect Google Forms to Google Sheets. It is better that you go with creating a new spreadsheet. Simply select ‘Create a new spreadsheet’, and type in the name of the spreadsheet just beside the option. 

Typing in a new name is optional, as you can also proceed with the default name that resembles the name of the Google Form. After you are done, click on ‘Create’.


*One thing to note here is that, if you select an existing spreadsheet, the contents in the spreadsheet will be intact whatsoever. The responses will be recorded in a new sheet within the file.

Opening the connected spreadsheet

Now, the linked sheet will open instantly in a new tab in the browser window.


You can either bookmark the sheet or open the sheet from the Google Sheets main window. Simply find the name of the sheet that you entered, at the time of connecting the Google form to the sheet. If you haven’t changed the name, the name of the sheet should resemble the name of the form.

So, that’s how to link Google Forms with Google Sheets. That’s really simple. Once you connect Google Forms to Google Sheets, you can analyze the data, filter records, and use all the tools within Google Sheets for data analysis, create presentations, and thus, help you get all that you need, from the responses recorded.
