How to schedule an SMS message on Android totally for free. Step-by-step guide


With almost everybody using WhatsApp these days, our primary mode of communication is WhatsApp. However, SMS messages still hold a place in our lives for obvious reasons. If somebody is offline, not sure whether the recipient is online, or sending a message to somebody who doesn’t use WhatsApp, an SMS message is the most reliable mode of communication.

Besides instant messaging, we might need to send an SMS to somebody at a particular time, and in that case, there’s also a way to schedule an SMS message. That way you will never forget to send the message, and the recipient will get the message exactly when it is necessary. So, today on InkedFreedom, I will basically talk about how to schedule an SMS message.

That said, without any further delay, let’s get started with how to schedule an SMS message on an Android phone.

Prerequisites to schedule an SMS message

Before getting started, let’s just mention the only thing that you will need to schedule an SMS message. You should have Google Messages on your Android. Most modern Android handsets these days come pre-installed with Google Messages as the stock messaging app, however, if you are using a different SMS app, you can always download Google Message from the link, and use it as the default messaging app. 

Now that you have Google Messages on your Android, here are the steps you need to follow to schedule an SMS message on Android totally for free.

Steps to schedule an SMS message 

Open the Google Messages app on your Android, and hence open the conversation with the contact with whom the SMS is to be scheduled.

You can also create a new conversation and then select the contact to schedule an SMS.

Now, type in the message, and long tap on the ‘Send’ button. Here you first have to tap on the SIM that will be used to send the message (if you have two SIM cards), and then log tap on the ‘Send’ button again, and then tap on ‘Scheduled send’.


Here, you can see some preset timings. Simply tap on any of the preset timings, or you can also select a custom time and date by tapping on ‘Select date and time’.


Now, choose the date, and tap on ‘Next’. In the next step, you have to set the time. Once you are done, tap on ‘Next’ again.



Finally, tap on ‘Save’ after you set the date and time.


Now that you have scheduled the SMS message, tap on the send button again, and you are good to go.


You can now have a conversation with the person normally, and can always see the scheduled message persistently just above the typing area.

You can always long-tap on the message to delete it, send the message now, or modify the content of the SMS.
