How to link RuPay credit cards to PhonePe for UPI payments using credit card

Payments using UPI is not just a common activity among Indians, but it is a spearhead that has the potential to change the payment methods internationally. What’s very basic in all UPI payments is, our bank account are linked to UPI which enable us to easily send and receive funds. But things are not this easy if you have a credit card. The adoption of credit cards is still lagging behind, and chances are, you won’t be able to make a single credit card payment if you are in a tier 2 to a tier 3 city.

However, you can undoubtedly find many merchants on the UPI platform. To address this issue, NPCI, which introduced UPI and RuPay credit cards, has made it possible to link your RuPay credit card with UPI. That way, you can easily use your RuPay credit card to make UPI payments. While the density of RuPay credit cards is still low, compared to VISA, MasterCard, American Express, etc., we can see more such cards in the near future. That said, today I am here with a basic guide on how to link your RuPay credit card with UPI, on PhonePe.

Connecting RuPay credit cards to UPI

So, without any further delay, let’s get started with how you can use your RuPay credit card to pay at merchant outlets using UPI.

Before you can get started, make sure you have already set up your credit card pin using your credit card app, and you have already initialised PhonePe on your smartphone.

Now that you are ready, open the PhonePe app, and tap on the profile icon, on the top left corner of the UI.

Among the various options, simply tap on ‘RuPay Credit on UPI’, in the ‘Payment Methods’ section.

In the next step, tap on ‘Add New Card’ to proceed with adding a new RuPay credit card.

Now choose the bank or company where you have a RuPay credit card. This is SBI Credit Card for me. It won’t necessarily be the same in your case.

The next steps are simple. PhonePe will find the credit cards linked with your mobile number. Simply select the card type in the card number, the expiry date, CVV, etc. for authentication.

Once done, you will get an OTP on your mobile, and consequently, you have to set a 6-digit UPI pin, just like you set-up a UPI pin while connecting your bank account to UPI apps.

Finally, your RuPay credit card is ready for payment.

At the time of payment, simply tap on the scan icon, scan the QR code, enter amount, comments, and tap on ‘Proceed to pay’.

You will find all the added bank accounts, including the RuPay credit card that you have added. Just select the credit card, and tap on ‘Pay’.

The next step is as easy as entering your UPI pin just like we all do regularly, and your payment is complete.

So, that’s all about how to link RuPay credit card with UPI app PhonePe, and do UPI payments using your credit card.
