How to send WhatsApp messages to unsaved numbers using the new WhatsApp feature

WhatsApp is not theoretically the primary mode of text-based communication these days, but for most users, it is the first app that is downloaded right after purchasing a smartphone. Due to this popularity, we often need to convey some essential information to those numbers, which aren’t saved in our handsets. WhatsApp still doesn’t offer an official way to send messages to those numbers that aren’t saved.

It doesn’t make enough sense to first save those numbers, and hence message them, if we don’t need to communicate with them regularly. Even though saving a number was mandatory to send messages on WhatsApp, till a few months ago, updates to WhatsApp over time have brought a few arrangements to send WhatsApp messages to unsaved numbers. That said, today I will talk about how to send WhatsApp messages to unsaved numbers using an existing feature that is lately available on the app.

So, without any further delay, let’s get started with how to send WhatsApp messages to unsaved numbers using the ‘Message yourself’ feature.

How to send WhatsApp messages to unsaved numbers

The steps are pretty easy, and sending a message to an unsaved contact is as good as a tap away if you know the steps.

Open WhatsApp, and tap on the ‘New chat’ button, as shown in the screenshot below.

Once there, tap on ‘Message yourself’, which should be at the top of the list displaying the names of contacts who are on WhatsApp.

Once you tap on your own name, a conversation with yourself will open up. You can send any message here. This can be something like a reminder, items for shopping, to-do, etc. But here you simply need to write the mobile number of the recipient and tap on the send button.

The mobile number will turn into a clickable link. Just tap on the number you just sent.

On tapping, WhatsApp will check if the number is available on WhatsApp. This process will take one or two seconds.

If the number is available on WhatsApp, a menu will appear, and the first option on the menu will be ‘Chat with **********’. Just tap on that.

You can now start chatting with that person without saving the number. You will also get the option to call the person on WhatsApp.

So, that’s how to send WhatsApp messages to unsaved numbers. Wasn’t that simple. This can be really useful if you are in a place where you need to send certain invoices or other details, and you will hardly need to message the same person in the near future again.

Instead of sending the number to yourself, you can also send the number to any of your known contacts, or to persons you already chat with, and hence tap on the number, if you don’t mind sharing the recipient’s mobile number. But that is not recommended, as it is not fair to share someone’s number without their permission. If the Message Yourself feature is not available on your WhatsApp, you should upgrade the app, and the feature should be available on your WhatsApp.

The ‘Message yourself’ feature is not just available on the mobile version of WhatsApp. Even if you are mirroring WhatsApp on your PC or another smartphone, the feature should be available.

Besides this method of sending WhatsApp messages to unsaved numbers, here’s another way to send messages to unsaved numbers using any web browser available on your smartphone.
